Perfect for holidays and short breaks at any time of the year, 'The Stables' is a 19th century self-catering cottage that can be found right in the centre of Windermere, at the heart of the beautiful Lake District.

Welcome to The Stables website - a self-catering cottage full of character and charm. With thick stone walls and beamed ceilings it is the perfect base for anyone wishing to holiday in beautiful Beatrix Potter country.  Enjoying a fantastic location, the cottage is tucked away just off the centre of the beautiful town of Windermere, where the whole of this stunning  region is easily within reach.

The Stables cottage enjoys its own private parking through the orginal stable doors (essential in high season!) and there is an additional on street parking pass. With its proximity to the railway, coach and bus station, the whole of the Lake District is accessible even without a car, indeed it is perfectly possible to park the car and never use it again for the duration of your stay!

The local tourist information centre is just around the corner and filled with ideas of what to see and where to go, and the central location means cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops are literally a minute or two away. The walk up to Orrest head - the famous vantage point over Lake Windermere, can be started from the doorstep.

Built in 1854, after the coming of Windermere railway, The Stables used  to be a bottling store, as this old photograph shows. Now converted to holiday accomodation, the cottage is ideal for families, with cot, highchair, bed rail and bathroom step for toddlers, even their own cutlery and dishes!
